Hey Reader, When we were kids, we never could have imagined all the access to information, data, and entertainment we'd have today. With supercomputers in our pockets and worlds of information available to us at the touch of a button (or at the sound of our voice), we'd be so much smarter and more productive, right? RIGHT? The truth is, we're more distracted and our energy and focus is more fragmented than ever. So how does anyone ever focus on something like writing a book? Here are my two biggest tips to help you eliminate distractions when writing:
Composition mode is a feature within Scrivener that helps you block out all the other elements, and brings you to a clean, quiet user interface that feels like what writing should be - just you and a blank page. The clean, minimalist design helps you focus on your project, without all the typical distractions. You can easily jump in and out of composition mode by using Command-Option-F (Mac) or F11 (Win). This is the ONLY way I draft my stories, and it helps me achieve and maintain a flow state far better than anything else I've tried. Check out this week's video to learn more about composition mode, and if grab my Scrivener Quickstart Guide for help getting started in Scrivener.
It seems like a simple thing, and it is. Maybe that's what we've been missing all along. -T.C. PS - what's your biggest obstacle in writing your book? At the time of this writing my latest poll is split. |
